The Puppy Kitchen
Fresh homemade meals and treats for growing puppies, with portions by weight and age from 8 weeks to 12 months.

The bowl is the biggest question
A new puppy comes home, the breeder’s bag runs low, and every website tells you something different.
Week one at home- Every site gives a different portion
- Soft stools after every food switch
- Not sure which human foods are safe
- Treats add up, dinner gets left
- Kibble only, and you want more for them
- One clear number by weight and age
- A slow 7-day switch, firm stools
- A fridge list of safe and never foods
- Treats that stay inside the 10% rule
- Real food you cooked yourself
Every bowl is building material
A puppy grows faster in its first months than at any other time in its life. Under 4 months, it needs about 3 times its resting calories: nearly double what an adult dog of the same weight eats.

The problem
Most recipes online guess at portions and skip the balance. A 2013 study of 200 home-cooked dog recipes found that 95% fell short on at least one essential nutrient.
The fix
Every recipe in The Puppy Kitchen lists cups by today’s weight and age, uses food you know, and tells you when a vitamin-mineral mix belongs in the bowl.
The result
Real food in the bowl, portions that grow with your puppy, and no more guessing at six o’clock.
The Puppy Kitchen in numbers
Portions use the standard veterinary energy formula and USDA calorie data for every ingredient.
Your first bowl in 40 minutes

Starter Bowls
Soft, gentle bowls for the first weeks at home and any day the tummy needs a break.

Growth Bowls
Everyday bowls for months 3 to 12, each built around a different protein.

Big-Batch Bowls
14 to 16 cups from one slow cooker or Instant Pot, made for busy weeks.

Training & Teething Treats
Tiny rewards, cold pops for sore gums, and one cake for the big day.
Plus portions by weight, the safe & not-safe list, a 7-day switch and feeding by age.

Cook once, feed for days
Most bowls make 5 to 7 cups from one pot. Portion them into containers, keep three days in the fridge and freeze the rest. Thaw overnight, warm with a splash of water, serve.
- Ingredients from any grocery store, nothing hard to find
- No salt, no seasoning, nothing from the never list
- Big-Batch Bowls fill the freezer for a busy week
From the first bowl to a routine
No overhaul on day one. A slow switch, then a rhythm that grows with your puppy.
Sunday: weigh, feel, adjust- Days 1–2
Start slow
Keep the breeder’s food for a few days, then begin with 25% new food. Firm stools mean keep going.
- Days 3–7
The 7-day switch
Step up to 50%, then 75%, then 100%. Soft stools? Stay at that step for two or three more days.
- Week 2
Find your rhythm
Pick three or four bowls, cook on two days a week and freeze the rest.
- Week 4
Grow the portions
Weigh every Sunday and move up the chart. Ribs hard to feel? Trim portions by 10%.
Why not just a recipe online?
OakpawFree recipesWhat puppy parents ask first
Are these recipes a complete diet?
On their own, no, and we say so in the book. As a topper of up to 10% of daily calories, they sit alongside a complete puppy food. Anything more needs a vitamin-mineral mix made for homemade dog food. The book explains both paths.
How do I get the book?
Right after checkout you see a download button, and we email your link at the same time. It’s a PDF that opens on your phone, tablet or computer, and you can print it.
My puppy is 9 weeks old. Is that too young?
No. Portions start at 8 weeks. Under 4 months a puppy needs about 50% more per day, and the book shows how many meals to split it into at each age.
Do I need special equipment?
A pot, a pan, a measuring cup and a kitchen scale. A slow cooker or Instant Pot helps for the Big-Batch Bowls. Everything else comes from a normal grocery store.
We have a large-breed puppy. Does it work?
Yes. One page covers big-breed puppies like Labs, Goldens and Shepherds: why they should grow slowly and why calcium matters. Talk to your vet before you go beyond toppers for a large or giant breed.
